Cancer knows no boundaries, yet the burden of the disease is unequal. With more than 70% of cancer deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the need for equitable, informed care has never been greater.
GODOC is a dynamic virtual lecture series designed to meet this challenge. Now in its fifth year, the program fills critical training gaps by connecting trainees, practitioners, and subject matter experts across the globe.
Target Audience
While open to a broad audience of practitioners, the program is specifically tailored to Hematology and Oncology Fellows.
Format
Monthly interactive virtual sessions led by experts from diverse regions.
Curriculum
Topics range from health system disparities and workforce development to region-specific clinical innovations.
A New Standard for Global Education
Unlike traditional “top-down” global health models, GODOC is co-developed with and features participants from underrepresented regions.
Bidirectional Knowledge Exchange
GODOC serves as a model for educational decolonization. By elevating voices from Underrepresented in Health Professions Education (URiHPE) contexts, the program challenges long-standing hierarchies. It creates a space for reciprocity where participants from the U.S. and LMICs learn from one another—fostering professional networking, collaborative research, and sustained dialogue.
Proven Impact: Evaluations of the program have demonstrated clear improvements in participant knowledge and high levels of satisfaction.
Validated Learning: Pre- and post-session assessments confirm that the virtual model effectively advances understanding of Global Oncology topics.
Scalable: The program’s low-cost, high-impact design offers a blueprint for building capacity in resource-constrained environments.
GODOC By The Numbers
Looking Ahead
The program’s success was showcased at the 2025 African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) Conference. In a milestone moment for the initiative, Rwanda’s inaugural Oncology Fellows presented their insights and experiences as GODOC participants and co-authors, highlighting the power of globally informed, equitable education. As we move forward, GODOC remains committed to uniting oncology professionals worldwide to drive equitable, high-quality cancer care and foster ongoing global knowledge exchange.
