The ONCares Research Mentoring Program Strengthens oncology research capacity through structured mentorship, research design guidance, microgrants when available, and academic collaboration.
Collaborative Oncology Research Projects
The Research Mentoring Program supports small-scale research projects involving international teams, including evidence synthesis and original research, with primary implementation in low- and middle-income countries.
Translational Breast Cancer Evidence Synthesis
Conducted evidence synthesis bridging preclinical and clinical research, drawing on multi-country evidence including Rwanda, Kosovo, the United States, and other settings, to generate context-relevant insights for breast cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Point-of-Care Gastric Cancer Screening Study
Assessed the feasibility of a stool-based M2 pyruvate kinase test to support early triage of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, linking point-of-care testing with endoscopic and pathology findings to inform earlier detection strategies in low-resource settings.
Research Support at the University of Rwanda
Delivered in partnership with the Rwanda Cancer Centre at the Rwanda Military Teaching Hospital and the University of Rwanda, the Research Mentoring Program provides structured mentorship in study design, evidence synthesis, and data analysis, enabling fellows to develop and lead their own research projects.
NAR & Upper GI Cancer Mortality
Prognostic Value of Pretreatment Neutrophil to Albumin Ratio for Mortality in Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Cancers Treated at Rwanda Cancer Center.
